Of the entire franchise, I think I played the Saturn original the most, followed by XL and then Pure at the launch of the PSP. Instantly bought the CD and then the game (which I remember I bought used at Babbage's and bought a blue-colored jewel case to replace the used one to get rid of all the price stickers). And then when XL came out, and the soundtrack was featured on MTV's new releases, I was hooked. I 100%ed that port, the sense of speed was amazing.

I remember first playing the Wipeout demo at the Sony store on Michigan Avenue (along with Toshinden, which I was also wowed by at the time, lol).īut oddly, my first full experience with Wipeout wasn't on the Playstation, but rather the Saturn. It was really a defining moment in gaming for me. Wipeout is one of my favorite franchises. At least even if there's nothing new for the Series, Omega is a fantastic package that will age very well. That's what Pure was to me but it never happened again. To me, WipEout was always meant to be a launch game showcasing cutting edge technology. I should try BallisticNG to capture that WipEout 3 feeling (never really loved handling before Pure but that's just because I played them in the wrong order I guess), but even with Redout, Fast RMX and every other competitor, nothing came close to the joy of starting a new Zone run.

So I've seen how the series evolved and it's quite a journey, but Omega is all I need right now. Never really touched the collection again to play seriously, just tried lots of VR and I'll listen to the OST almost weekly but all I really want is a new game with ray tracing everywhere ^^Īfter I discovered WipEout HD, I did play WipEout 1/Pure/Pulse on PSP, 2097 on PS3, 3/Fusion on PS2 (it's a shame 3 crashes on PS3) and 2048 on Vita. Awesome moment to conclude my WipEout journey. When I excitedly posted about it on the old site, sharing the youtube video that inspired me, its creator replied in the thread. However I never could manage to beat my high score from a previous Zone 84 run.įast forward 8 years later and when I bought Omega, the only thing I did was start a new Anulpha Pass run and I somehow beat that score on my first attempt. Ended up grabbing the Platinum trophy and reached Zone 91 on Anulpha Pass after perhaps one billion attempts just for the thrill of it, inspired by a youtube video by ProblemSolver.

Then WipEout HD came out on PS3 and it had a demo with Feisar on Vineta K again! This time, I fell in love and bought the full game. A friend did that for me and I enjoyed it for the mind blowing graphics, but didn't buy the game. If you had a copy, you could upload a demo to someone else's PSP where they could keep playing with Feisar on Vineta K as long as they don't quit the demo. My interest grew with WipEout Pure on PSP. I first had a taste with the WipEout Fusion trailer from the PS2 Winter 2001 Demo disc (with demos of Dark Cloud, WRC, etc.) featuring the track Big Ten (I think that's when I discovered that genre of music).
